The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Eyabi Okie-Anoma, taking him 66 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Spending an early pick on linebacker with tight end and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
On value alone, Harden makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 1, Pick 25, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
T.J. Tampa at No. 48 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Melton this early at the 58th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaac Guerendo at slot 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in pick 91 leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
A slide stopped in pick No. 96, with Calen Bullock worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Mason McCormick at Round 4, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tanor Bortolini in pick 149 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Luke McCaffrey in the 153rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cedric Johnson at slot 202 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 236th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a linebacker like JD Bertrand reach pick 245 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A wild overpay on Carter Bradley in the 255th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
