The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Jake Majors, the No. 93 name on the board, sitting there at the 130th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
