They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman. They are betting Solomon proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than pick No. 35 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Morgan at No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cade Stover at slot 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Khyree Jackson a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 37 on Javon Solomon with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Trevor Keegan in the 139th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 151st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jacob Cowing in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ro Torrence in pick 188 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Frank Gore Jr. in slot 222 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
