Call it larceny. Damien Martinez sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The Elijah Moore pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 33rd overall pick, where Walter Nolen graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Omarion Hampton is a better player than Round 2, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trey Amos slipping to slot 67 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Bond at the 76th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kyle McCord at pick No. 149 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Logan Brown in pick 174 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Damien Martinez all the way to No. 204, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Nohl Williams at pick No. 211 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Luke Lachey in pick 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jermari Harris was still sitting there in No. 247, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
