The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That Brownlee Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They will need Rosengarten to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Drake Maye in the 11th pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Worthy at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Dominick Puni at the 78th overall pick, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Matt Goncalves in No. 100, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roger Rosengarten well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the 139th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marist Liufau at the 152nd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They let Jaylan Ford come to them and pounced at slot 222. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
