You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chiefs took Jaylen Harrell at the 177th pick, roughly 31 spots before his name belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end, quarterback and other spots went begging. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Khyree Jackson at No. 104. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots to take Jarrian Jones, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Justin Eboigbe slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 23 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Khristian Boyd went about where he belonged in pick No. 173. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Harrell at the 177th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Kimani Vidal at pick 232, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Matthew Jones in the 252nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
