The real work happened on the phones. The 49ers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Landing Bisontis that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will need Curry to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Gabe Jacas, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and A.J. Haulcy was the payoff at No. 60. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Logan Jones at slot 109 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caden Curry at the 111th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
De'Zhaun Stribling at Round 4, Pick 27 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Oscar Delp at No. 133 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Charles Demmings at pick No. 139, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in slot 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eli Heidenreich at Round 7, Pick 30 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
