The war room fell hard for Anthony Belton, and it showed at slot 168: 89 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Put together, it is a D.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Landing Booker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Cowboys paired the rookies with proven help, Myles Garrett leading the way.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Ashton Jeanty went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Mason Graham at the 12th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
In No. 24 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nick Emmanwori in slot 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Isaiah Bond in Round 2, Pick 7, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Alfred Collins in the 64th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Tyler Booker was still sitting there in the 70th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Burch. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Danny Stutsman at pick No. 93 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Emery Jones Jr. in the 106th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Maxwell Hairston at Round 4, Pick 30 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Shemar Turner at pick 134 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Raheim Sanders went about where he belonged in slot 148. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Anthony Belton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

They paid a round early for Seth McLaughlin in slot 195, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at pick No. 248, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
