The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, tight end and other spots still on the board.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 40 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Chop Robinson at the 67th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots sat open.
Bucky Irving is a better player than the 102nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Foster at slot 141. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
