Somebody in Round 7, Pick 3 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Josh Proctor, the No. 187 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Reaching for Braswell left real value on the table behind him. Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached a country mile for Chris Braswell at the 36th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at No. 67 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Junior Colson in slot 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Beau Brade at the 102nd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Javion Cohen at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 181 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Josh Proctor in the 223rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
