The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Restrepo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. The veteran additions, Justin Fields chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
Terrion Arnold at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Jenkins in No. 46 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Denzel Burke in the 56th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at slot 75 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Michael Hall Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Donovan Edwards went about where he belonged in the 99th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jackson at Round 4, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Junior Colson higher than the Round 4 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 127, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Aki Ogunbiyi at par in pick 174, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Joshua Gray at the 212th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Xavier Restrepo at No. 245 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ja'Had Carter in slot 247 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
