Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Myles Harden got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at pick 233. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The cost of the Allen reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Troy Fautanu at the Round 1 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Terrion Arnold here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in Round 3, Pick 24, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Kingsley Suamataia at the 88th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cornelius Johnson at pick 174 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in the 216th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Myles Harden at slot 233 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in pick No. 244, with Jordan Whittington worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
