You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Milton. The Jamaree Salyer pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at slot 56, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zach Frazier at Round 3, Pick 5 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Michael Hall Jr. in the 87th pick, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Jarrian Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in pick No. 174, with Marist Liufau worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kendall Milton in the 216th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trevin Wallace in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Andrew Raym, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
