Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Isaiah Williams, the No. 198 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 23. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The cost of the Mordecai reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 18 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jordan Morgan in pick No. 60, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Edgerrin Cooper slipping to Round 3, Pick 8 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking D.J. James in the 99th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Will Shipley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
McCallan Castles is a better player than the 163rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A running back of that caliber at pick 174 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Nehemiah Pritchett all the way to No. 178, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in No. 188: Roger Rosengarten for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Steele Chambers in the 229th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Isaiah Williams in Round 7, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tanner Mordecai in the 256th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
