Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 145. Highway robbery. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If Webb pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
In the end it comes back to Nic Scourton, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Emeka Egbuka at the 38th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Grey Zabel in pick No. 58, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Harold Fannin Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick 69 is lovely value for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 77 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Barrett Carter in the 105th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cam Skattebo at Round 5, Pick 6 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jaylen Reed in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Clay Webb at slot 222 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ty Hamilton in Round 7, Pick 22 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
