The Chargers torched the value chart for Jayson Jones, taking him 52 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Brock Bowers and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Terrion Arnold at slot 37 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Trey Benson at par in the 69th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Wilson at pick 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DJ James at Round 4, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Ty'Ron Hopper in the 139th pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A premium they did not need to pay, AJ Barner a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kingsley Eguakun at slot 223 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Jayson Jones at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
