You could see the war room lean forward. Troy Franklin at slot 69 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every board in the league had Harrell lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers at slot 8 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; Quinyon Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Troy Franklin reach Round 3, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Mike Sainristil at No. 106 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Javon Foster was the payoff at the 139th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Beaux Limmer in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Harrell in pick 183, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, AJ Barner in the 223rd pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Isaac Guerendo in slot 256, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
