You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chargers took Jermayne Lole at No. 256, roughly 67 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Jordan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 5 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Xavier Worthy at par in slot 42, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Calen Bullock at No. 74 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Braelon Allen at pick 131 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 4, Pick 34, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value said wait; Justin Rogers in No. 139 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
AJ Barner at pick 183 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christian Jones in the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Jawhar Jordan all the way to slot 248, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Jermayne Lole at pick No. 256, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
