It is the swing that defines the weekend: Will Putnam in the 256th overall pick, a good 64 spots before the room expected him. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Harrell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell at No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at slot 69, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in the 106th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Braelon Allen in pick 139 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked AJ Barner enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylen Harrell slid further than he should have, and pick 223 is lovely value for the edge rusher. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Will Putnam in the 256th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
