The rest of the league had time to spare on Gabe Hall; the Chargers did not wait, grabbing him 30 spots ahead at the Round 6 slot.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Fisher pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell in the 37th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Jalen McMillan in pick 69; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Fisher at the 109th pick is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Sincere Haynesworth at slot 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylen Harrell at pick No. 179 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Gabe Hall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Steele Chambers in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Myles Cole in the 256th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
