The Zion Logue pick is the one that will follow the Chargers into the fall. They took him 78 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Hit on Joe Alt and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zach Frazier this early at the 37th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 69 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Javion Cohen in Round 4, Pick 6 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Aki Ogunbiyi at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Zion Logue in pick 183 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DeMonte Capehart at the 223rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Amari Gainer well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
