The Chargers bet big and early on Zion Logue, 45 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They talked themselves into Zach Frazier at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mike Sainristil in pick 69 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matt Goncalves at No. 106 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Theo Johnson in the 139th overall pick, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Michael Wiley at slot 183 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
