Somebody in No. 222 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Tykee Smith, the No. 160 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Fautanu slipping to pick No. 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Payton Wilson come to them and pounced at No. 67. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good price on Sedrick Van Pran in the 78th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caelen Carson at the 100th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Matt Goncalves in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Newton at pick 152 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Tykee Smith here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
