The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Bo Nix, the No. 30 name on the board, in Round 3, Pick 14. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They will need Tupuola-Fetui to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Marvin Harrison Jr. in pick No. 18. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 20 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Bo Nix in No. 78 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Khyree Jackson in pick 80; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in the 117th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ben Sinnott slipping to slot 137 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Kitan Oladapo at the 155th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 180 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Daijun Edwards at the 193rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 7, Pick 2, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Jalen Coker at the 231st pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
