There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Eagles started one anyway for Tyler Owens, 86 picks ahead of schedule.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Simpson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at the 50th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in No. 53. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Nehemiah Pritchett a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Tyler Owens in pick 161, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ryan Flournoy at slot 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylin Simpson at slot 172 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
