The Eagles looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Darius Robinson at slot 97 regardless, 24 picks early.
They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots went begging. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Junior Colson went about where he belonged in the 68th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Caelen Carson in pick 73 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 83 on Maason Smith with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved.
They liked Khyree Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 92. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Darius Robinson at Round 3, Pick 34 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Spencer Rattler at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylen Wright in No. 160 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Javon Baker in pick No. 170 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Braelon Allen higher than pick 171, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 14 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
