The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 79 spots for Jalen Travis, and value like that does not grow back.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Lambert-Smith. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Ashton Jeanty at Round 1, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Colston Loveland at slot 38. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Jack Bech in the 69th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylin Noel in the 77th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Anthony Belton at par in No. 106, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 144 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Travis in slot 217 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow KeAndre Lambert-Smith was still sitting there in pick No. 220, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garrett Dellinger in the Round 7 slot, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
