There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Taylor Upshaw, 162 picks ahead of schedule. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 5, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Brenden Rice at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Roman Wilson at pick 105 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Michael Barrett at the 183rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They reached a country mile for Taylor Upshaw at Round 7, Pick 6, and the board is aghast. The roster logic is harder to follow.
