The rest of the league had time to spare on Jalen Travis; the Bears did not wait, grabbing him 63 spots ahead at the Round 7 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Emmanwori.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Landon Jackson in pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Omarion Hampton slid further than he should have, and the 41st pick is lovely value for the running back. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 45 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wilson in slot 72 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
CJ West at No. 148 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Moliki Matavao at the 232nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jalen Travis at pick 233 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Jaylin Lane was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
