The Cowboys spent real capital to be 32 picks early on Jordan Whittington, and the board is going to hold them to it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Rosengarten falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in No. 124, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 174th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 6, Pick 37 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Whittington in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
