The Layden Robinson pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 44 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Lovett steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Worthy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Graham Barton at the 95th pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
James Williams at slot 121 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaheim Bell in Round 4, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Brooks in the 158th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tony Grimes at the 200th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Layden Robinson at pick No. 240 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Dominic Lovett in Round 7, Pick 22, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
