The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Brashard Smith, the No. 104 name on the board, sitting there at Round 6, Pick 22 like a gift left on the doorstep. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Nash reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jalon Walker at No. 53 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Gunnar Helm at Round 3, Pick 20 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Connor Colby in slot 164, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Brashard Smith in pick 197 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Nick Nash enough to skip the value, taking him in the 235th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
