Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jadarian Price, the No. 69 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 141.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a mismatch in the passing game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel Pregnon in Round 2, Pick 6, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Caleb Banks in No. 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 69th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Connor Lew in slot 106 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Jadarian Price still on the board at pick 141. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Justin Joly at pick No. 167 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a wide receiver like Zavion Thomas reach the 243rd overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
