The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Max Iheanachor, the No. 46 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The cost of the Haynes reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
Kenyon Sadiq at the 38th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
Sonny Styles at slot 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 41
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 69th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 46
Max Iheanachor in No. 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 81
They barely believed it either: Daylen Everette still on the board at pick No. 141. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Matt Gulbin · C · rank 183
Matt Gulbin at pick 167 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Jamal Haynes · RB · rank 269
A wild overpay on Jamal Haynes in Round 7, Pick 27, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
