When a board-topper like Lee Hunter slides to No. 69, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to the 38th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Blake Miller slipping to pick No. 59 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Lee Hunter at the 69th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Sam Roush was the payoff at No. 106. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on CJ Daniels in pick 141; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Demond Claiborne in slot 167, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Bryce Foster at par in Round 7, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
