Call it larceny. Blake Miller sat on the board until Round 4, Pick 6, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Spending an early pick on safety with wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Dillon Thieneman at slot 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; Akheem Mesidor at the 59th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Blake Miller at the 106th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Parker Brailsford still on the board at pick No. 167. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Desmond Reid in Round 7, Pick 27, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
