The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jake Slaughter, the No. 58 name on the board, in No. 106. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Barrett reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Arvell Reese at pick 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kenyon Sadiq in pick No. 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Keylan Rutledge a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to No. 106, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for De'Zhaun Stribling here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Hezekiah Masses at slot 167 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nick Barrett in the 243rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
