This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Keionte Scott, the No. 60 name on the board, stolen at Round 5, Pick 1. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Oronde Gadsden II pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In the end it comes back to Jeremiyah Love, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kayden McDonald in the 38th overall pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Gennings Dunker in pick 59, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jake Slaughter in slot 86 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for A.J. Haulcy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Keionte Scott in pick No. 141 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Bryce Boettcher at the 167th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in No. 243: Dane Key for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
