The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Elijah Sarratt, the No. 77 name on the board, in slot 141. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Gulbin left real value on the table behind him.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Kenyon Sadiq in the 38th pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Lee Hunter at pick 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Chase Bisontis in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Elijah Sarratt was still sitting there in No. 141, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matt Gulbin in Round 5, Pick 27 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Eric McAlister in pick No. 243 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
