Thirty-one other rooms let A.J. Haulcy slide, and the Texans were the ones holding the card at the 167th pick. Highway robbery.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · David Bailey · LB-EDGE · rank 5
In the 28th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
The board fumbled Kenyon Sadiq all the way to slot 38, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Monroe Freeling · OT · rank 26
Somehow Monroe Freeling was still sitting there in the 59th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 48
Lee Hunter at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Gennings Dunker · OT · rank 49
They will replay Gennings Dunker at Round 4, Pick 6 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Chris Johnson · CB · rank 32
Chris Johnson at pick 141 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 50
You do not let a safety like A.J. Haulcy reach No. 167 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Kevin Coleman Jr. · WR · rank 162
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick No. 243, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
