The rest of the league will want that one back. Jake Slaughter tumbling to the Texans in pick 106 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Stephens lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Kenyon Sadiq was the payoff at the 28th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Lee Hunter come to them and pounced at the 59th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, A.J. Haulcy in pick No. 69, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jake Slaughter at Round 4, Pick 6 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Beau Stephens in slot 141 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Kevin Coleman Jr. in No. 167, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Desmond Reid at pick 243 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
