The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Damien Martinez, the No. 148 name on the board, in No. 167. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They are betting Ratledge proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Walter Nolen at slot 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tate Ratledge at the 58th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ozzy Trapilo in the 89th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Vernon Broughton in pick 127, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Damien Martinez in pick No. 167, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
