You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Donell Harris Jr. at the 238th overall pick, roughly 25 spots before his name belonged.
Franklin falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Kris Jenkins in pick 49, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at the 90th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cedric Gray at pick No. 117 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at No. 128, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Layden Robinson went about where he belonged in slot 154. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Zakhari Franklin at the 234th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donell Harris Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
