You build a draft on nights like this. Elijah Arroyo had no business being available in pick No. 150, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Malaki Starks in No. 58 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jack Bech at pick 97 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in pick No. 127, and they pounced on premier running back value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Elijah Arroyo still on the board at slot 150. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Jordan Phillips here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Willie Lampkin all the way to Round 6, Pick 30, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in the 243rd overall pick, with LaJohntay Wester worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
