The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Will Johnson fell into pick 58. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled Will Johnson all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jack Bech in No. 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Darius Alexander still on the board at slot 167. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kyle Williams at pick No. 208 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Trey Zuhn III at pick 243 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
