The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Connor Lew slide 48 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Circle this one: Olaivavega Ioane at No. 38 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Lee Hunter in the 66th pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eli Stowers slipping to pick No. 69 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Mike Washington Jr. at par in pick 73, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Connor Lew at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah World in Round 5, Pick 27 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
