There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Texans started one anyway for Jaylan Ford, 31 picks ahead of schedule.
That Carson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Byron Murphy II at slot 53 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caelen Carson in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Donovan Jackson in the 121st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Danny Stutsman still on the board at No. 124. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylan Ford at pick 158 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 240th pick, where Storm Duck graded well above the range. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jase McClellan in slot 242. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
