Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Brashard Smith, the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in the 89th pick, where Tate Ratledge graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at Round 4, Pick 26 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Brashard Smith in slot 193 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Kyle Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Teddye Buchanan in No. 243 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
