When a board-topper like Will Shipley slides to No. 164, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Rogers pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let a cornerback like Ennis Rakestraw Jr. reach Round 2, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 85, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Adams. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Justin Rogers in slot 127 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Will Shipley at the 164th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Neyor at the 239th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in No. 248, with Mark Perry worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
