You could see the war room lean forward. Keon Coleman at No. 58 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Reaching for Ford left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: running back settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a No. 1 receiver, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the 90th pick, where Jonathon Brooks graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Max Melton come to them and pounced at pick 123. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylan Ford. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
